Every June 24, a traditional Inca ceremony is held in honor of the god Inti or Sun, considered one of the most important festivities throughout the year in Peru.

The Inti Raymi is the most significant and important celebration in the Andean worldview, where a representation of Inca history is performed, where costumes, typical dances and other tourist activities are combined. This ceremony has 3 different points in the city of Cusco, the The first act is carried out in the Temple of Qoricancha, where the Inca leaves to make the entire tour escorted by his entourage, the second place where he goes is to the Plaza de Armas of Cusco to then go to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman central point where the whole ceremony takes place.

It was the Inca Pachacutec who started this celebration in the Inca empire, formerly it was known as “Wawa Inti Raymi”, which according to the Andean worldview, at this time the sun began a new cycle.

QORICANCHA

Thousands of volunteers from the city of Cusco offer to prepare and stage the ceremony, where the Inca Pachacutec makes his first appearance to worship the sun god. The first staging takes place in the garden of the Qoricancha Temple located on AV. El Sol, where the Inca appears very early where he performs the first rituals where they offer llamas, coca leaves, alpacas among other auquénidos.

MAIN SQUARE

The second staging is appreciated, where the Inca performs a sacrificial ritual again in homage to the sun. The Inca is carried by his entourage and performs the coca ceremony. This second staging takes place at approximately 11:00 am, where a multitude of people and visitors are waiting and observing everything that happens.

SACSAYHUAMAN

The Sacsayhuaman fortress is the main stage of the entire Fiesta del Sol, where Inti Raymi is celebrated, exactly on the Chuquipampa esplanade, where to enter it is necessary to have an access ticket. There are 3 stands or platforms set up for tourists, however you can also see the staging from other higher parts of the esplanade, due to its great width and unevenness in terms of the shape of Sacsayhuaman, standing allows you to observe from a better way the whole ceremony.
