Traditional Discovery Circuit: Lima - Cusco in 6 Days



In this circuit you will be able to know the most traditional destinations of Peru: Lima known as the city of the kings, and Cusco the historical city of Peru, and Sacred Valley (Pisac and Ollantaytambo), Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.Don’t forget to bring your camera so as not to take away a beautiful memory of your visit.

ITINERARY

Places:  Huaca Pucllana, historic Center of Lima, Plaza San Martin, Plaza Major, Cathedral of Lima, Government Palace, Archbishop´s Palace.

Reception and welcome at the airport in Lima and transfer to the selected hotel.

City Tour Lima
The day begins with the pick up of our participants from each of their hotels in Lima, after the after a short visit to the Intihuatana Park, located on the Malecon in Miraflores, where we will observe the Pacific Ocean. We will continue our tour through the residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, we will also observe outside the Huaca Pucllana, a temple pre-Incan ceremonial pyramid-shaped that has endured the urban expansion of Lima.

Then the tour will continue to the Parque del Olivar and the Financial Center and then to the Historical Center of Lima, catalogued by UNESCO in 1991 as a Cultural Heritage of the Humanity, where the center of the Spanish colony was established in the 16th century where the first buildings. We will appreciate the San Martín Square, its balconies and old houses, the and its most important buildings such as the Government Palace, the Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop and Municipal, the Desamparados Station and others.

We will enter one of the most relevant convents of the 17th century. Where the relics are still preserved of the three most important Peruvian saints, Saint Rose of Lima, Saint Martin de Porres and Saint John Macias, and then return to Miraflores where we will finish our tour, you will have the option to stay at the Indian market, at Larcomar or return to your hotel.

We will start the day by picking up our participants from their hotels in Cusco, we will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas which is located on the bank of the Vilcanota River, we will visit the Inca citadel of Pisac, where we will appreciate platforms and architectural structures located on the slopes of that place and at the top of the mountain, we will return to the traditional village of Pisac to visit the Indian market, where we can learn about the customs of its inhabitants.

We will have lunch in one of the traditional restaurant located in Urubamba, Sacred Valley of the Incas. In the afternoon, we will visit the Fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, erected to guard the entrance to this part of the valley and protect it of invasions of the people from the eastern jungle.

On the way back to Cusco we will visit the Picturesque traditional village of Chinchero, where the remains of the royal Tupac Inca hacienda are located Yupankee. We will appreciate its very well preserved Inca Walls in the main square and you will appreciate the beautiful colonial temple with interesting frescoes in the portico, built on the foundations of an Inca construction.

Meals: Box Lunch and dinner.

Accommodation: Overnight in Aguas Calientes town. (Hotel on request)

Distance: 16kms/10 mls (6 hours more or less of hiking)

Difficulty: Easy/Moderate.

Walking Time: Approximately 6 hours (including picnic lunch en route)

Walk and Terrain: Walk, canter on open roads, some steep ascending trails

Today our hike takes us along the most impressive stretch of the Inca Trail. We will visit beautiful Inca sites, see a variety of flora and fauna and enjoy the fantastic views of the Andes Mountains. Covering 16 km of the trail, our journey begins in the Sacred Valley and climbs the original Inca Trail to the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna before continuing to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate (Inti Punku).

As we drive to Machu Picchu, we will pass through the lush green cloud forest that covers the mountain and see a variety of plants, flowers and birds along the way. We can also see some larger mammals such as the Viscachas (rabbit-shaped chinchillas) and the Spectacled bears (if we are very lucky).

After a full day of walking, we will arrive at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) in the late afternoon and get our first views of Machu Picchu spread out on the mountain below. The light at this time of day is great for photos because there are few tourists, so it is a perfect time to take some pictures of the site. After passing through the Puerta del Sol, we will continue along the trail a little before taking a side path that leads us to Aguas Calientes in the valley below, where we will check into our hotel.

We will wake up early (04:00am) to take one of the first buses back to Machu Picchu to enter the site as soon as it opens (06:00am) we will have a 2 hour guided tour at the site where you will learn about the Incas and visit all the most important areas of the citadel. After the tour, you will have free time to explore the site by yourself and if you have permission to climb the Huayna Picchu (2 hours round trip) or the Machu Picchu mountain (3 hours round trip).

You will also have time to do some of the following activities on your own if you wish (not included in the price)

Climb the Huayna Picchu or the Machu Picchu mountain and appreciate the beauty and magnificence of Machu Picchu from there.

Other optional activities in Aguas Calientes are a visit to the new local museum or a dip in the hot springs.

Return to Cusco: You will descend to Aguas Calientes by bus (included) and then board the Expedition train to the Ollantaytambo Train Station "The train departure time may vary depending on the schedule and availability of the train". At the Ollantaytambo train station, you will meet our private van and be transferred to your hotel in Cusco.

The hike to the mountains of Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu depends on availability; please let us know if you wish to add one of these additional hikes at the time of your reservation.

We only take ITEP EcoTravel clients in our vans and cars. We do not use public transportation.

About the hotels in Machupicchu:

The hotels can change (be different according to your request) depending on the time of reservation and availability; it is also possible to camp on the Inca Trail 2d/1n, we just need to follow the conditions of the Machupicchu government or the restrictions made for security reasons by the Peruvian government.
